Girls Can Do Anything has been featured in The Midwest Book Review’s The Children’s Bookwatch.

The Ohioana Library Association has said, “It is an excellent book and we are proud to have it as a part of our permanent Ohioana collection.”

Twelve-year-old Esther Jane doesn’t know why her father left her family. She doesn’t know what to expect in her new home in India. She is certain, though, that she needs to be recognized by adults as a young woman…one as capable as any young man her age.
With the move from a small town in Ohio to Delhi, India, Esther Jane’s adventures begin. Here she experiences the plight of the beggar population, the language, the traditions, the foods, the smells and the blistering heat of the streets. In juxtaposition, she lives within the majesty of the sparkling clean American Embassy and its compound…within its walls and protocol. She trains hard for the school swim team. At a competition she meets Jack, the handsome athletic son of a diplomat. We wonder with her how he will affect her relationship with Bobby, the farmer’s son back home, and we see Esther Jane’s values emerge. A business-sightseeing trip with her mother turns into a perilous journey. Only Esther Jane’s strength and intelligence save them both.
When Norma’s assignment in India is suddenly terminated, the scene shifts back to Ohio. Again, Esther Jane’s courage and strength save a life—Bobby’s! Here she rekindles her relationship with her father. His secret is revealed and she discovers his true feelings about her abilities and potentials.

Wayne Terry spent several years in India working for the U.S. State Department. He is a retired naval officer an ordained member of the Stephen Ministry. He resides in Ohio.
