From dance and music to photography and illustration; from painting to lighting design and acting the opportunities are there for those with perseverance as well as talent.

It also includes: a list of all kinds of careers; a timeline of women artists and their contributions; a compilation of related books; lists of helpful websites, organizations, competitions and special programs.

Dr Frances Karnes is professor in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education and Director of the Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi where she has been a member of the faculty since 1973. Director of the Leadership Studies Program at USM, she is widely known for her research, publications, innovative program developments and service activities in gifted education and leadership training.
