2047 A.D. The future of mankind is imperiled by a new, age-activated hybrid cancer which is caused by a virus that has infected the entire population. Hybrid cancer does not respond to the previous successful Zamite treatments. The Earth’s zamite crop has been weakened from years of pollution and natural generational drift.
Hybrid cancer(HC) kills people before they reach forty. In response, the education and development of youth have been accelerated. And it is the young who must find the way to break the hold of HC. A two-pronged strategy is devised based upon the newly acquired possibility of time travel. One expedition is being prepared to be sent into the future to purchase a cure for HC. The other is to be sent back to the Cretaceous Period to try to find a zamite specimen that has not been weakened by generational drift.
But things go wrong from the time when the time-fold vehicles are being prepared for the journeys, and both sets of time-travelers are quickly running for their lives.
The expedition to the future reveals a horrible future for humankind. None of the expectations of the expedition planners is correct. And the expedition to the past runs into severe difficulties because of fear, greed, jealousy, and the interaction of species.
Frank Carradine has a genius for creating double helix stories filled with excitement and suspense. The paradox keeps the reader turning the pages well past the time when the light should be turned off. And the author’s insights offer a satisfying intellectual bonus.
