New from Michael Clay Thompson
We are very pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of The Time Trilogy, in early November. This is the latest set of novels with teaching manual, in the Michael Clay Thompson (MCT) Literature program. There are also Companion Poetry Anthologies for the first time.
In the run-up to publication we are offering savings on pre-orders.
The Time Trilogy
The Time Trilogy is for the upper levels of the curriculum and consists of three novels: The Time Machine by HG Wells, A Connecticut Yankee at the Court of King Arthur by Mark Twain and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
The set, with the Teacher or Parent Manual, is currently priced on the website at $30.00. After November 1st it will be $40.00. (Please note that orders will not be shipped until the week of November 7th)
This literature trilogy is for upper levels of the curriculum. Alice, Peter and Mole is the set of novels for the first level. Titles for the middle levels will follow.
In this new literature strand of the MCT Language Arts Curriculum, for each of the classics chosen, Michael Clay Thompson provides close-ups of poetic techniques, four-level analyses of interesting grammar, and comments about writing strategies. They all focus on the author’s writing technique whilst still keeping the child’s mind on the book itself. There is a Parent Manual and a Teacher Manual which include background notes, Socratic questioning, and quotation quizzes.
Poetry Anthologies
The first, Elementary level, Companion Anthology includes the complete poems from Music of the Hemispheres, Building Poems and World of Poetry, and the second, the Secondary level, includes all the poems in the upper levels of the program. We have published them as a result of requests from parents and teachers to accompany the much-admired MCT Poetics Program.
With these two books you have access to more than 200 of the most memorable poems in the English language, chosen personally by Michael to illustrate not only the techniques of poetry but also the beauty of the English language.
Both volumes are currently priced at $10.00 but the Secondary level will go up to $15.00 on the publication date of 1st November. (Please note that the books will not be shipped until the week of November 7th)
On the rfwp.com website, the Time Trilogy books are in the Literature Series, with the set at the pre-publication price, and the anthologies in the Poetics Series.
National Association for Gifted Children Annual Convention, New Orleans, November 3rd to 5th
Royal Fireworks Press has a large booth in a prominent position in the Exhibition Hall. Our authors who are presenting at the convention will attend the booth from time to time:
Michael Clay Thompson, presenting on Poetry and Giftedness, giving a Defense of Formal Language Study for Gifted Children, and talking about the Hole in Vocabulary Curricula. On the booth he will be available to advise on the teaching of his MCT Language Arts Curriculum and launching his new literature series and poetry anthologies.
Dr Shelagh Gallagher, author of the innovative, social studies program: Problem-Based Learning Units. These foster interdisciplinary study through data analysis and connections to literature. They immerse students in real-world, complex situations in order to learn core curriculum. She will have a new publication: Concept Development, A Hilda Taba Teaching Strategy.
Dr Sharon Ryan, author of Normalizing Data for Identification of Gifted Students.
Other authors of particular interest to educators in the gifted field who are presenting at NAGC: Dr Lou Lloyd-Zannini, Dr Elizabeth Romey and Dr Joan Smutny.
