Joe Bass Adventures Series
Christopher Barry is a lifetime resident of South Dennis, New Jersey, a small, rural town near the Delaware Bay shore that has a rich history as a nineteenth century shipbuilding and commercial hub. He was inspired as a child by the stories told to him by the area’s elderly natives. It is not only the history, but the culture of self-reliant craftsmen and entrepreneurs upon which the Joe Bass novels are based. Chris Barry’s use of locale and local lore is masterful. The author is also the illustrator.

Mosquito Point is a story that develops when Joe takes a small job helping an arthritic old boat builder replace some rotten boards in his house. The two begin to build a boat together, then Joe gets involved in trying to find out what happened to the old man’s daughter many years ago. She was an early environmentalist and raised a lot of questions about the spraying of DDT around the bay. She was a strong swimmer but was found drowned. There was foul play involved; Joe is very surprised by the developments.
