Theo Rising is a picture book for children in early elementary school that introduces young students to the philosophical skills of posing an inquiry, examining competing theories, and using a criterion for theory evaluation. It features Theo, a young girl who learns various theories of ancient Greek philosophers about the nature of the world and a possible essential building block for everything in the universe. She also discovers different criteria with which to judge between the competing theories. This engaging book is part of a comprehensive story-based philosophy curriculum for kids.

Description

Theo Rising features a young girl who learns about various theories posed by the earliest Greek philosophers, the Presocratics, who asked about the nature of the world around them and deliberated on an essential building block for everything in the universe. Theo learns about the concepts of earth, water, air, fire, and numbers as the ultimate source of everything else, and she discovers different criteria with which to judge between the competing theories. Children are introduced to these philosophical concepts in a fun, creative, innovative way that makes them accessible, even to the very young.

This is a perfect-bound (glued) edition of this book, which has the advantage of a printed spine so that it can be found readily on a bookshelf. The book also comes in a saddle-stitched (stapled) edition. Additionally, there is an accompanying teacher manual that serves both editions. (See below.)
