Mike Strachan

Mike Strachan is a Project Management Professional with twenty years of Project and Program Management experience across Department of Defense, oil and gas, IT security, and educational projects. Mike served twelve years in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer, most notably in Fallujah (2006–2007), where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, and U.S. Navy Unit Commendation, among other honors. While in the Army, Mike completed an MBA program at Bangkok University (2009–2011) and earned his undergraduate degree from Ball State University (2001–2005).

In 2006, while leading a patrol in one of the most dangerous areas of Fallujah, Mike was struck by a hand grenade. It first hit his chest, then his knee and foot. His training kicked in, and he dropped to the ground, staring at the device, waiting for it to detonate. By some miracle, it never did. From that moment on, Mike has lived every day to the fullest, bringing an unmatched enthusiasm and energy to every class he teaches.

Despite sustaining a traumatic brain injury and managing dyslexia, Mike earned his PMP® certification in 2013 and soon transitioned from the Army to the oil and gas industry as a project manager. Within eight months, he rose to the position of Senior Project Manager, a testament to his leadership and project management acumen.

Since 2013, Mike has taught more than 400 PMP exam prep classes. He has also taught project management at numerous universities, including Gonzaga University, The Bangkok School of Management, Whitworth University, Houston University, and San Jacinto College. His students’ success rates speak for themselves—only three exam failures since the PMP exam changes in 2019.

Currently residing in the Culpeper, Virginia area with his wife and four children, Mike dedicates himself full-time to PMP exam prep instruction. His courses are crafted not only to educate but to challenge and inspire, using real-world stories forged in combat and refined in the business world. You will not forget his class.
