You read that right! Michael Clay Thompson is a genius of the English language, but his interests are far-ranging, and he’s teaching World Cultural Geography in the Royal Fireworks Online Learning Community in the 2023-2024 school year. We couldn’t be more excited to offer this special course for kids who know and love mrT as an incredible instructor, as well as for students who haven’t yet had the pleasure of learning from a master at reaching children with enthusiasm and deep learning.

If you’re familiar with Michael’s books, then you’ve probably already noticed that he loves geography. Level 3 of the MCT language arts curriculum is called the Voyage Level for that very reason. As an example, kids who use Essay Voyage get a thorough soaking in short essays about different places around the world.

Now Michael is bringing that passion to the online classroom. Students who take his geography course will explore every continent and major body of water in the world, learning about great writers, creators, thinkers, composers, and artists in the process. They’ll also learn about national capitals and major cities, but this is not a typical geography course. There will be a strong emphasis on cultural understanding, tolerance, and appreciation, all of which flow naturally from a knowledge of the world.
