The Royal Fireworks Online Learning Community is thrilled to announce two brand-new creative writing courses this fall, designed to help kids discover and refine their unique writer’s voice. Whether your child is just beginning the writing journey or looking to deepen creative writing skills, these courses provide the perfect environment for creative exploration and growth.

In these courses, students will delve into various genres of writing, exploring poetry, fiction, and elements of writing theory. They’ll create characters, craft compelling dialogue, and engage in exercises designed to spark creativity and improve their writing techniques. With a focus on both in-class prompts and more extensive assignments outside of class, students will receive personalized feedback to guide them on their writing journey.

We’re also excited to introduce Mark Filie as the instructor for these courses. With thirty-four years of experience in public education, Mark has mentored many young writers who have gone on to become published authors. His award-winning teaching and long-standing involvement in producing a student literary magazine make him an exceptional addition to our team.

Creative Writing (Ages 9-12) ✏️
Class Meetings: Mondays, 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Dates: September 9 – December 16
Cost: $500

Course Highlights:

• Explore Multiple Genres: Children will dive into poetry, fiction, and more, discovering the methods and techniques behind each.
• Find a Unique Voice: Through a study of writing theory, students will work toward finding their own unique voice as a writer.
• Engage in Creative Exercises: In-class prompts and assignments will spark creativity, while homework will allow students to develop longer works or collections of works.

Creative Writing (Ages 13-18) ✍️
Class Meetings: Mondays, 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Dates: September 9 – December 16
Cost: $500

Course Highlights:

• Advanced Genre Exploration: Older students will delve deeper into poetry, fiction, and other genres, honing their skills and creativity.
• Develop a Writing Voice: The course emphasizes writing theory to help students find and refine their individual style.
• Focused Feedback: Mark will provide personalized feedback on student work, guiding students toward becoming skilled, confident writers.

Both courses offer the incredible opportunity for your child to learn and collaborate with other students in an interactive online setting.
