Advanced Seminar on American Local History

This seminar is an introduction to the study of local history. Understanding local history often presents challenges because there are few good local history books. The scarcity of local histories also offers an opportunity for students to investigate and write an account of where they live.

The first few weeks of the seminar will emphasize methods and sources for writing local history. Students will then work with the instructor to identify a topic they want to pursue and begin collecting information leading to a final project or paper.

Live Classes: Thursdays, 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time

Student Support: The instructor will be available via email and also via individual face-to-face online conferences.

Feedback/Assessment: Feedback will be based on the student’s final project.

Materials: It will be the responsibility of each student to find the necessary information to complete the selected project.
