An Introduction to Creative Writing (Ages 12-15)

This course teaches students the fundamentals of story writing. Students will learn to write captivating stories by studying techniques related to plot, characterization, and setting. Each week they will turn in creative writing assignments that focus on one or several of these areas. By the end of the course, they will have a portfolio of original stories to share with family and friends.

Live Classes: Fridays, 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time

Student Expectations: Students should come to the live classes ready to participate in class discussions and to work on in-class writing exercises.

Student Support: The instructor is available via email.

Feedback/Assessment: The instructor will provide written feedback on student work.

Materials: Students will need to purchase the book A Fairly Creative Guide to Telling Tales by Aubrey Lively. In addition, they should bring a pencil, eraser, and notebook paper to each class meeting. If they wish to illustrate their stories, they are welcome to use colored pencils, pens, markers, or crayons to do so.
