THIS IS A TWO-SEMESTER COURSE.

This course introduces students to world history from the birth of the Renaissance to the present day. Students will examine several modern societies of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. They will analyze the histories of these nations by learning about the Boxer Rebellion, the Meiji Restoration, and the colonization of Africa. They will discuss Africa and India and their sphere of influence in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Next, students will examine the developments in Europe that fostered the Enlightenment and the Scientific Revolution. They will debate the strains that both world wars had on Europe and the world, as well as the policies that impacted the Cold War and how many parts of the world experienced hardship and warfare during the late twentieth century. Finally, they will learn about the modern world and international reactions to various current global events.

Materials: All reading materials will be available on the internet. Please have a working printer for special assignments.
