Elementary Spanish

THIS IS A TWO-SEMESTER COURSE.

This course is designed to give children their first exposure to Spanish. It will teach them new vocabulary and help them develop conversational skills in Spanish, primarily through the use of simplified selections from Cervantes’s Spanish classic Don Quixote, as developed by Dr. Myriam Borges Thompson. Students will learn Spanish vocabulary, sentence structure, and culture as they read the adventures of the famous Spanish character and his friend Sancho. Spanish will come alive through the fantastic adventures of one of the best-known characters in world literature.

Live Classes: Mondays, 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Students must attend the live classes.

Student Expectations: Students will be required to participate in the live classes. They also must complete all assignments and projects.

Student Support: The instructor is available via email.

Feedback/Assessment: Feedback will be provided on assignments and classwork.

Materials: All necessary reading and study materials will be provided and posted online. Students must have a good Spanish-English dictionary, a class notebook, 3×5-inch index cards, drawing paper, and pencils.
