Essay Writing (Ages 11-13)

This course introduces young writers to the art of essay writing. Students will learn the basics of essay structure and will practice writing essays on a variety of topics. Extensive feedback on each essay will allow students to improve relative to their own strengths and weaknesses. Students will practice grammar and mechanics throughout the course. Because this course is writing-intensive, in-person meetings will occur every other week, with several exchanges of feedback by email between each meeting.
Live Classes: Tuesdays, 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Note that this class meets every other week. The first class is on June 6th.
Student Expectations: Students will complete numerous grammar exercises, short writing assignments, and three short essays.
Student Support: The instructor is available via email.
Feedback/Assessment: The instructor will provide extensive feedback on all writing assignments.
Materials/Supplies: Students will need to purchase the book Essay Voyage from the MCT language arts curriculum.
Prerequisites: Students should have a basic grasp of English grammar and mechanics.
