Fine Arts: Charcoal Drawing

In this course, students will learn how to handle and use charcoal and toned paper. They will learn both traditional and creative techniques with this versatile medium. Students are expected to create one finished piece per week for homework and present the work in the following session.

Live Classes: Thursdays, 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time

Student Expectations: Students are expected to complete one artwork per week for homework and to participate in the live classes.

Student Support: The instructor is available via email.

Materials/Supplies: Students should have a webcam and an overhead mount so the instructor can view the drawing process. Please have it installed before class begins. Students will also need a gray-toned sketchbook (minimum 10”x12”), a set of compressed charcoal or charcoal pencils, at least two sticks of white charcoal, 3-5 sticks of vine charcoal, a kneaded rubber eraser, a blending stick, a sandpaper sharpener, and charcoal fixative. They should also have on hand newspaper to put down around the drawing area (charcoal can be dusty).
