Introduction to Mindfulness Workshop: Healthy Minds, Healthy Students (Aug. 5-7)
- Instructor Arlene Prince
- Code LS102W
- Student Ages 10–18
- Term Summer Workshops 2025
- Day Tuesday–Thursday
- Time 2:00 P.M.
In this experiential workshop, students will learn a variety of mindfulness techniques that will enable them to be fully present in whatever their body is doing, wherever they are. The goal is to empower them with tools to live happy and healthy lives by becoming aware of their inner resources and skills, which will stand them in good stead in our often overwhelming and stressful world. These skills are as important as any academic skill because students can use them throughout their lives and in all aspects of life.
The mindfulness skills include:
- Mindful breathing
- Mindful techniques to identify stress and relax
- Mindful movement and stretching
- Mindful techniques for daily life
Research has identified proven benefits for students trained in these skills who practice using them:
- Increased focus, attention, memory, and creativity
- Higher achievement in academics, sports, and the performing arts
- Decreased levels of stress, depression, anxiety, and disruptive behavior
- Greater ability to resolve conflicts and to cope with frustration, anger, and impulsive behavior
- An enhanced sense of calm, self-esteem, optimism, and confidence
- Improved social skills
Class Meetings: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Dates: August 5th, 6th, 7th
Materials/Supplies: For this workshop, students should bring a cell phone or an electronic device, if possible, to record the techniques being taught, as well as a notebook to document their experiences. Optimally, they should attend the workshop in a private room, free from disturbances so they can concentrate. They may also wish to lie on a bed, sofa, or yoga mat to be comfortable while learning the relaxation techniques.
