THIS IS A TWO-SEMESTER COURSE.

The seventh level of the MCT language arts curriculum offers a high level of challenge. Using the strategies explained in Advanced Academic Writing III, Michael Clay Thompson teaches the students how to write academic essays advocating their own ideas, complete with citations and works cited. The grammar book, The Magic Lens III, explores the intricacies of how the English language is constructed through grammar. There are hundreds of stems in The Word Within the Word III that will enable students to understand words that they have never before encountered; there is also an engaging discussion of the beginnings of the ancient Roman Empire. The poetics strand is both an important and a fun part of the curriculum; Poetry, Plato, and the Problem of Truth introduces students to Plato’s epistemology and traces how great poets have dealt with the concept of truth. During the second semester, Michael will add the American Autobiography Trilogy of literary works to the curriculum.

As with all of the levels, the students in Michael’s online courses will get a good deal more in the way of images and explication than those who simply use the texts.
