Painting: Traditional Landscapes

  • Instructor Cody Rounds
  • Code ART57F
  • Student Ages 9–18
  • Term Fall Semester 2023
  • Day Wednesday
  • Time 3:00 P.M.

THIS IS A ONE-SEMESTER COURSE.

Landscapes have long been a favorite subject of painters and have been explored through many art movements and masters. This course will focus on traditional methods of landscape painting, with a focus on the impact of light, season, and composition on a scene. Students will learn how to do plein air painting, a favorite technique used by the Impressionists, and will try out their skills in their own natural surroundings. They will also discuss basic painting techniques such as color mixing, drawing, and brush handling.

Instructor Cody Rounds has a wealth of knowledge and professional experience in the techniques taught in this course, having been trained in the traditional Hudson River School style of oil painting and having studied plein-air painting in Paris, France. This is an excellent opportunity for budding young artists who want to be taught by a professional!
