THIS IS A TWO-SEMESTER COURSE.
This is a special course for children who do not like math, who do not feel confident in their math ability, who find math an alien language, or who just need some extra help before they get it.
This course teaches students the necessary problem-solving strategies that will enable them to solve algebraic equations. Topics include set, numeration, operations, pre-algebra, pre-geometry, measurement, and probability and statistics. During the year, the course will cover a wide variety of concepts: primes and divisors, fractions, equations and inequalities, decimals, ratios and proportions, unit conversions and rates, percentages, square roots, geometric shapes, statistics, and counting and elementary probability.
This course is set for the appropriate level of difficulty for children in the fifth or sixth grade. While the list of topics may seem daunting, the purpose of the course is to ensure in a gentle way that students are able to succeed with algebra.
