  • Code LS129W
  • Student Ages 10–16
  • Term Winter Workshops 2024/2025
  • Day Monday–Friday
  • Time 3:00 P.M.

In this Harvard research-based interactive workshop, students will learn the following skills to manage stress and build resiliency:

  • Stress awareness
  • Stress management techniques
  • Positive thinking/reframing negative thoughts
  • Goal setting
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Mindfulness

Harvard research shows that students trained in these skills who establish a regular, ongoing practice using them can derive dramatic benefits. These students can:

  • Improve relaxation and feel calmer
  • Reduce stress, anxiety, and worry
  • Cope with emotions such as fear, frustration, and anger
  • Control impulsive behavior
  • Relate better to others
  • Sleep better
  • Increase self-esteem and confidence
  • Develop better work and study habits
  • Improve attention span, concentration, learning, and creativity
  • Improve academic performance and problem solving
  • Feel happier and more positive

Resiliency skills are as important as any academic skill because students can use them in all aspects of their lives.

Class Meetings: Monday–Friday, 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Dates: January 6th–10th

Materials/Supplies: For this workshop, students should bring a cell phone or an electronic device, if possible, to record the guided relaxation techniques, as well as a notebook to record their experience. Optimally, they should attend the workshop in a private room, free from disturbances so they can concentrate. They may also want to bring headphones to eliminate distraction while listening to a guided relaxation exercise, during which they may wish to lie down.
