We recommend getting both the student books and the implementation manual for this text, as there are too many places where the implementation manual gives away the answers to the questions and exercises. Building Poems, the second book of Michael Clay Thompson's poetics series, uses architecture as an extended metaphor, showing that poems are constructed like buildings, with careful attention to every detail. Like the metaphor itself, the book is constructed so that it beautifully illustrates the points made by reinforcing them visually.
This book takes the same basic topics that were introduced in The Music of the Hemispheres and expands upon them, adding new elements. It includes alliteration, assonance, consonance, end rhyme, rhyme scheme, internal rhyme, eye-rhyme, poetic feet, iambs, trochees, anapests, dactyls, spondees, sonnets, ballads, rime royal, limericks, similes, metaphors, personification, apostrophe, and endstopped versus enjambed lines.
These elements are exhibited in the poems of famous poets such as Lewis Carroll, T.S. Eliot, Emily Dickinson, William Blake, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Robert Louis Stevenson, John Keats, Edward Lear, Walt Whitman, Lord Byron, Robert Frost, Henry Longfellow, Percy Bysshe Shelley, William Shakespeare, and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
The book enables students to understand and appreciate poetry on a far higher level than usual. It can be used as a stand-alone introduction to poetry for young students or to set the stage for a more advanced program in middle or high school.
Note: New to the second edition of this book are QR codes that link to audio of Michael Clay Thompson himself reading the poems in the book.

Practice Town is a supplement to Grammar Town and is the practice workbook for the second level of the MCT language arts curriculum. Its aim is to improve students' grammar and writing skills through analysis of individual sentences. Students work through the sentences using the unique four-level analysis method that is introduced in Grammar Town.
Each of the one hundred sentences appears on a separate page with four blank lines beneath it where students can fill in the parts of speech, the parts of the sentence, phrases, and clauses. By examining a wide range of sentences, students will experience the satisfaction of a clear understanding of the principles of English sentences.
This useful workbook is meant to be consumable and is therefore offered at a low cost.

The Alice, Peter, and Mole Trilogy contains the classic novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and The Wind in the Willows. Each book is reproduced in its entirety and includes Michael Clay Thompson's "language illustrations"—close-ups of poetic techniques, four-level analyses of interesting grammar, and comments about writing strategies. Challenging vocabulary is defined at the bottom of each page. The combination of those devices makes these novels perfect companions to his MCT language arts curriculum, which contains grammar, vocabulary, writing, and poetics strands.
The parent manual includes a short essay by Michael about each novel, vocabulary words to study in advance of the readings, language illustration questions, quotations for quote quizzes, discussion questions and activities, and suggestions for academic writing practice.
There is also an iBook Parent Manual for the three novels, which are also iBooks.
