Celebrating Another Award-Winner!

We’re proud to announce that The Day the Thought Bubbles Got in the Way has been honored with an Academics’ Choice Smart Book Award! This prestigious seal of educational quality is reserved only for the best mind-building media. This independent awards program and its seal of excellence are recognized worldwide by consumers and educational institutions as a mark of genuinely effective learning tools that stimulate the mind and provide potential for students to develop higher-order thinking skills.

For Rosa and Kevin, the protagonists in The Day the Thought Bubbles Got in the Way, play should be fun, but they find that their thoughts make them dissatisfied. This engaging story, told in rhyme, follows them as they learn how to transform their thinking so that they can be happy. Beautifully illustrated, the book leads children into the foundations of Buddhist philosophy. Pages in the back provide an explanation of the philosophy, questions for discussion, and resources for further exploration.

One reviewer wrote:

“The book addresses many important topics, such as being in the present, controlling your thoughts/emotions, and conflict resolution. I particularly liked the multicultural characters, the cute drawings to engage young learners, the rhyming text, and the simple chant-like verses that children can memorize. It’s perfect for the young learner who is just beginning to be aware that others may have different ideas.”

The Day the Thought Bubbles Got in the Way is part of our Eastern philosophy curriculum. A companion volume, The Day the Thoughts Got Stuck, also won an Academics’ Choice award. That book deals with how thoughts and expectations can prevent us from experiencing happiness in the moment. It, too, is beautifully illustrated, is told in rhyme, and includes a section in the back that provides an explanation of the philosophical underpinnings of the story. The intended audience of both of these books is children ages five to nine.

For older children, Ingrid Klass has written The Circle of Happiness, an entertaining and comprehensible introduction to a wide range of Eastern thinkers and their philosophies. The Circle of Happiness won a Gold Mom’s Choice Award.

Ingrid Klass often does three-day workshops or teaches semester-long courses in Eastern philosophy in the Royal Fireworks Online Learning Community. Both her teaching and her books provide an intellectual experience that many children prize.
