From Stress to Success
Royal Fireworks Press announces a new book about stress in gifted children. Almost everyone experiences stress, with the fast pace of society and technology and the onslaught of the 24-hour news cycle that leaves most of us feeling bad. But gifted kids have special stressors that most people don’t think about, often because they don’t know about them. These children are different from others, and their differences can cause them to experience situations and feelings that others may not understand. And with their characteristic sensitivity and intensity, they often react in ways that are puzzling to their peers and to the adults around them.
Carol Strip Whitney’s new book From Stress to Success is a useful guide to enable parents and teachers to help gifted children learn to avoid and manage stress. It explains what it is that can cause stress in gifted children and how they are likely to react to it. It also discusses ways in which to help prevent or alleviate stress for these children. Most notably, it offers strategies and advice that children can use when they experience stress, which they inevitably will, no matter how much we may try to shield them from the worst aspects of it. These strategies will work for most children, but they are especially helpful for those who are gifted.
