New from Michael Clay Thompson
This trilogy includes three novellas by Charles Dickens: A Christmas Carol, The Chimes: A Goblin Story, and The Cricket on the Hearth. They are the first of what Victorian scholars call Dickens’s Christmas stories because they were published just before Christmas in 1843, 1844, and 1845.
Although only A Christmas Carol deals directly with Christmas, all three are linked not only by the time and circumstances of publication but also by their themes and by Dickens’s handling of the characters. These are books with exaggerated hard-hearted and materially comfortable people like Ebenezer Scrooge and cheerful, good-hearted but downtrodden people like Bob Cratchit. All three books explore issues of charity, sympathy for the oppressed, kindness, and open-heartedness.
Dickens was the greatest genius of the Victorian novel; this trilogy gives young readers an introduction to him, as well as an opportunity to enjoy his work without having to tackle one of his long novels.
This is a brilliant holiday treat.

NEW: Fabulae Caeciliae: Cecilia’s Stories
A Latin curriculum you can implement for your children–even if you do not have any knowledge of Latin yourself
This beautifully illustrated introduction for young learners utilizes photographs of the Roman world.
We announced Dr. Frances R. Spielhagen’s Latin curriculum a while ago, and we are thrilled that it is now available. We believe that it is the pinnacle of the natural and inductive approach to learning. Rather than being forced into translating, children are challenged to absorb Latin, making meaning from the illustrations that go with the words and developing vocabulary and grammar gradually in the natural thread of language acquisition. The illustrations of young Caeciliae and her family are drawn by artist Lorel Barr, and images of their domestic and public life are from our own library of photographs taken at archaeological sites and in museums by Dr. Thomas Kemnitz; his expertise has informed the depiction of every detail in the illustrations, and his explanations in the Teacher Manual provide background and additional information about the illustrations.
Adults who have studied Latin will find the language familiar but the materials new and engagingly beautiful. Adults who have not studied Latin will be able to comprehend the language and imbue the student and themselves in the Roman world and its Latin. The Teacher Manual provides the grammar and forms and includes a CD of Dr. Spielhagen enunciating the Latin in each chapter so that you can hear the correct pronunciation.
SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY PRICE FOR STUDENT AND TEACHER BOOKS WITH CD: $30.00 (After December 1st, the price for the set will be $35.00 or more.)
REVISED: The popular SUPPOSE THE WOLF WERE AN OCTOPUS
This series is a highly effective and extremely practical question-by-question approach to developing children’s higher-level thinking abilities based on their reading of literature.
This is the most significant update of the Suppose the Wolf series in three decades. Long a favorite of teachers, the series shows instructors how to develop high-level thinking skills by questioning children about the books they are reading. The questions are based on Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, and they have been restructured to reflect the revisions to the Taxonomy. The questions also have been rewritten totally to sharpen their focus and enhance their effectiveness.
Not only should parents and teachers know Bloom’s Taxonomy, but they also should know how to use it to improve their questioning technique in order to develop children’s minds fully. Every story you read to children, or that children read on their own, is an occasion to help them develop their thinking abilities; not to question them creatively is a lost opportunity.
Each book provides guides to creative questioning for about fifty stories at each level. The four books are for grades K-2, grades 3-4, grades 5-6, and grades 7-8.
HOLIDAY PRICE: $10.00 each (normally $12.99) Buy Now

These are books you can put into your children’s hands without fear of the content or the language.
