Michael Clay Thompson teaching full-year, online courses.
Royal Fireworks Press announces that Michael Clay Thompson will teach the first five levels of his English language arts curriculum as full-year, online courses, starting in the autumn of 2017. They include the vocabulary program that has received a major validation via a study reported in the April 2017 edition of the journal Roeper Review.
Michael is teaching the courses online as part of the Royal Fireworks Online Learning Community. In Level 5 he is teaching The Word Within the Word I, The Magic Lens I, Advanced Academic Writing I, and Poetry and Humanity. In The Word Within the Word I there are 500 stems that enable students to understand words that they have never before encountered, as well as an engaging discussion of Greece in the classical age from 490 to 323 B.C. Much of the grammar, vocabulary, and writing at this level is the foundation of many students’ high scores on the SAT.
The peer-reviewed study into the efficacy of The Word Within the Word I was conducted by Dr. Shelagh A. Gallagher in a South Carolina school district. Students who were taught using The Word Within the Word I made significantly greater gains in vocabulary acquisition than students who were taught using other vocabulary texts, and those gains were true both for students who were identified as gifted and those who were not. The results represent a major validation of the Royal Fireworks language arts curriculum by Michael Clay Thompson.
Michael Clay Thompson is also offering the lower levels as full-year courses: Island, Town, Voyage, and Literature. This is a great opportunity for children to have one-to-one-communication with Michael.

The MCT language arts curriculum tied for first place in the 2016 Practical Homeschooling Reader Awards.
For more than forty years, Royal Fireworks Press has published books and challenging curriculum for gifted children that are also ideal for homeschooling.
A parent wrote about the MCT courses to say: “My daughter absolutely loved all three components of these two classes—grammar (which I think was her favorite), weekly reader response, and the essays. I can already see a difference in her writing. Once she submitted her final coursework, she came home from school that afternoon, and the first thing she said was, ‘I miss my Mr. T. classes.'”
This is one of the latest comments from a homeschooling parent about the language arts program: “My mother is a college English professor, and after spending a few days working through the books with my eight-year-old son, she said he knows grammar better than most of her students. We are truly enjoying this program!”
