In this workshop, students will learn the concept and format of the philosophical debate. During each of the next two meetings, the instructor will conduct two debates, thirty minutes each. The students will write a paragraph in preparation for their part in each debate, for a total of four paragraphs for the workshop. Students will debate the following topics: (1) Is free will real or just an illusion? (2) Is happiness just chemicals flowing through your brain or something more? (3) If every neuron in a human was accurately simulated in a computer, would it result in human consciousness? and (4) Can animals have morals?
