|Instructor||Michael Clay Thompson|
|Price 1 semester||$700|
|Price 2 semesters||$1300|
The sixth level of the MCT language arts curriculum offers a high level of challenge. Using the strategies explained in Advanced Academic Writing II, Michael Clay Thompson teaches the students how to write academic essays, complete with citations and works cited. The grammar book, The Magic Lens II, explores the intricacies of how the English language is constructed through grammar. There are hundreds of stems in The Word Within the Word II that will enable students to understand words that they have never before encountered; there is also an engaging discussion of the development of the ancient Roman Republic. The poetics strand is both an important and a fun part of the curriculum; Poetry, Plato, and the Problem of Beauty takes children on an extraordinary exploration of Plato’s aesthetics and how the great poets interpreted his ideas of beauty. As with all of levels, the students in Michael’s online classes not only will get the opportunity for live classes but also will see a good deal more in the way of images and explication than those who simply use the texts.
During the second semester, Michael will add the Fog Trilogy of literary novels to the curriculum.
Live classes will be held most Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The first semester begins the week of August 17th and ends the week of December 14th. The second semester begins the week of January 11th, 2021, and ends the week of May 10th. There will not be a live class every week. The core of the course is the assignments and the extensive feedback given by Michael, with the live class being a voluntary enrichment for students who are able to attend. Students’ attendance of the live classes has no effect on their grades. Students unable to attend a live class will be able to access a recording of the class.
