Reducing Stress through Mindfulness
It isn’t easy being a kid. Today’s youth are experiencing higher levels of stress than any generation on record, and it’s impacting their grades, their sleep, and their overall well-being. While numerous factors may be contributing to this spike, a solid toolkit for handling stress is a universal remedy. Children who have the ability to address their own stressors are able to navigate challenging situations with confidence and improve their own lives. This 12-week course is for students who want to learn how to control their focus and develop sustainable mental clarity. Students will learn valuable life skills by studying and practicing techniques rooted in mindfulness-based stress reduction. The course will center on building focus and awareness through controlled breathing, concentration exercises, and class discussions. Students will leave the course with several techniques they can use to redirect themselves during times of work, stress, boredom, or emotional reactivity.
Live Classes: Students will meet for half an hour twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:30-1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, for this 12-week course. The first class of the week will be education, and the second will focus on practice. The course runs from January 14th to April 2nd, 2020.
