Abraham Lincoln. George Washington. Thomas Jefferson. People recognize these famous American names immediately. These men led interesting lives, and their biographers are numerous. But there are other, less well-known Americans who made important contributions to the development of the country and led interesting lives but whose biographers aren’t so numerous. This course will explore some of those intriguing individuals. Examples include individuals such as Phillis Wheatley, Samuel F.B. Morse, Noah Webster, and Jane Addams, as well as important groups, such as the teenaged “Mill Girls” of early New England industrialization.

Live Classes: Mondays, 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, from the week of January 10th to the week of May 9th. Classes will be recorded for later viewing by students who cannot attend or who want to revisit a class.

Student Support: The instructor will be available via email and also via individual face-to-face online conferences.

Materials: All reading materials will be available on the internet.
