The Art of the Essay
This is a nine-week course incorporating material from a variety of MCT texts, with a focus on how to write an academic essay. Topics will include the basic elements of introduction, body, and conclusion, but extra attention will be devoted to academic tone, the difference between a serious theme and a cliché, and the subtle opportunities of a mature conclusion that are not part of the normal explanation.
Students will write numerous essays, closely assessed by Michael, culminating in the final essay of the class, of which much is expected.
Live Classes: Wednesdays, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, from June 5th to July 31st
Student Support: Michael is available via email.
Prerequisites: Students must be able to type an essay on a computer.
