Trees are humans’ best friends. They are beautiful and useful. We admire them in our lawns, parks, and forests, and they give us wood, paper, and fruit. They stabilize the environment, provide the oxygen we breathe, and shade our homes in the summer. But how much do you know about trees?

We think of trees as big and wooden—when we think of them at all. But trees are living things. They grow and reproduce, suffer injury and disease. They communicate with one another through the air and underground. Some can live to be more than 4,000 years old. Scientists have discovered that mother trees feed their young, and trees even have a kind of memory.

Let’s talk about trees!
