THIS IS A TWO-SEMESTER COURSE.
This will be a physical and cultural geography course. Students will explore every continent and major body of water in the world, learning all of the national capitals and all of the oceans and rivers. They will pause on great writers, creators, thinkers, composers, and artists. They will learn what many major cities look like and will be able to recognize them in photos. The course will be rich with maps, including blank maps that the students will be challenged to know. Emphasis will be on the richness and diversity of the world and on the cultural understanding, tolerance, and appreciation that flows from a knowledge of the world.
Class Meetings: Mondays, 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Fall Semester: September 14 – December 14, 2026
Spring Semester: January 11 – May 10, 2027
Student Expectations: Students will be expected to learn the language of continents and nations, the courses of rivers and oceans, and much of the culture and history of the world. They will also need to find good information about a geographical location each week and email it to the instructor. In addition, students must attend the live class meetings with their cameras turned on—no exceptions. Students who attend class regularly but who miss a live class meeting will be able to access a recording of the class.
Student Support: The instructor is available via email.
Feedback/Assessment: There will be a report card for each semester based on class participation and work sent.
