THIS IS AN AUDIT-ONLY COURSE!

This version of the MCT Level 6 course is appropriate for those students who cannot attend the live class meetings or who do not wish to turn on their cameras during the live class meetings.

Students who take this course will not join the weekly class meetings. Instead, each week there will be a video recording posted on the course website for the students to watch of that week’s live class meeting with Michael. Students who wish to have Michael grade their work must enroll in the full version of the course.

THIS IS A TWO-SEMESTER COURSE.

MCT6, the sixth level of the MCT language arts curriculum, offers a high level of challenge. Using the strategies explained in Advanced Academic Writing II, students learn how to write academic essays, complete with citations and works cited. The grammar book, The Magic Lens II, explores the intricacies of how the English language is constructed through grammar. There are hundreds of stems in The Word Within the Word II that will enable students to understand words that they have never before encountered. It is methodically interdisciplinary, making the students stronger in every subject. Also in that book is an engaging discussion of the development of the ancient Roman Republic. The poetics strand is both an important and a fun part of the curriculum; Poetry, Plato, and the Problem of Beauty takes students on an extraordinary exploration of Plato’s aesthetics and how the great poets interpreted his ideas of beauty. During the second semester, students will read the Fog Trilogy of literary novels.

As with all of the levels, the students in the online courses will get a good deal more in the way of images and explication than those who simply use the texts.

Dates: The week of August 17th to the week of December 14th, 2026, and the week of January 11th to the week of May 10th, 2027
* Note that there will not be a class meeting—and therefore a recording of it—every week. Michael gives a small number of breaks during the semester to allow students to immerse themselves fully in the work.

Materials/Supplies: Students will need the Level 6 texts: The Magic Lens II; 4Practice II; The Word Within the Word II; Advanced Academic Writing II; and Poetry, Plato, and the Problem of Beauty; as well as the Fog Trilogy novels: The War of the Worlds, The Red Badge of Courage, and Kidnapped.
