THIS IS A FOUR-SESSION WORKSHOP.

This summer book club is all about science experiments and space exploration gone awry. Together the students will discuss three science fiction books by American children’s writer and Newbery Honor-winner Jennifer L. Holm: The Fourteenth Goldfish, The Third Mushroom, and The Lion of Mars.

The first session of the workshop will be an introduction to the author and the books, as well as how to navigate the course website, where students will find links to author websites and interviews and other book-related activities. Students will then be expected to read one book per week prior to the live class meeting and attend prepared to discuss the plot, characters, and themes.

Class Meetings: Wednesdays, 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Dates: June 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th

Materials/Supplies: Students will need a copy of each of the three novels: The Fourteenth Goldfish, The Third Mushroom, and The Lion of Mars, all of which can be obtained online or from most libraries or bookstores.
