A Preview of Algebra I (June 3-July 29)

This course is for students who are ready to begin algebra. It is designed to provide an introduction to the subject, a chance for students to get a jump on the math expected in the upcoming year. Students will be presented with several problem-solving strategies to apply to basic introductory algebra, including linear equations, ratios, quadratic equations, special factorizations, complex numbers, graphing linear and quadratic equations, linear and quadratic inequalities, functions, polynomials, exponents and logarithms, absolute value, and sequences and series.
This course is set for the appropriate level of difficulty for students who are in the sixth to the eighth grades.
Class Meetings: Wednesdays, 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Dates: June 3 – July 29
Student Expectations: Students will be given weekly assignments to reinforce the topics covered in the class meetings.
Student Support: The instructor is available via email.
Feedback/Assessment: The instructor will review all homework at the beginning of each class.

Prerequisites: Students should have a basic knowledge of pre-algebra.
