NOTE: THIS COURSE MEETS FOR A HALF HOUR EACH SESSION.

Nature provides children with a vast array of interesting living species that intrigue their young minds. From the tallest trees to tiny flowers and from puppies to bears, living things on Earth keep children enthralled with the natural world.

In this course, students will learn about the plant and animal kingdoms. They’ll investigate different types of plants, from flowers to trees, and delve into animal species, from the tiniest insects to the largest dinosaurs. During the lessons, they’ll view a variety of resources and discuss the findings. In the process, they’ll discover the fascinating world that awaits them.

Class Meetings: Tuesdays, 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time*
Dates: September 1 – December 8, 2026
*Please note that each class meeting is only a half hour long.

Student Expectations: Students will participate in hands-on activities and engage in class discussions. The amount of time spent on each topic will be determined by the students’ interests and prior knowledge. Homework will be assigned after most classes. Assignments may be hands-on activities and/or involve basic research.

Student Support: The instructor is available via email.

Feedback/Assessment: The instructor will provide a letter grade or written or verbal commentary on the homework and all completed classwork.

Materials/Supplies: Students will need a variety of materials in order to complete the hands-on projects, including:

– Pencils, pens, colored pencils, markers, or crayons
– Lined paper, copy paper, and construction paper
– Poster board
– Scissors, tape, glue
– A few canisters of Play-Doh or something equivalent
– Miscellaneous craft supplies and recyclables
