THIS IS A FOUR-SESSION WORKSHOP.

This summer book club is all about summer adventures that are full of secrets, surprises, and unexpected turns. Together the students will discuss three historical fiction books set in the 1930s and 1950s by American children’s writer and Newbery Honor-winner Jennifer L. Holm: Turtle in Paradise, Full of Beans, and Penny from Heaven.

The first session of the workshop will be an introduction to the author and the books, as well as how to navigate the course website, where students will find links to author websites and interviews and other book-related activities. Students will then be expected to read one book per week prior to the live class meeting and attend prepared to discuss the plot, characters, and themes.

Class Meetings: Wednesdays, 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Dates: June 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th

Materials/Supplies: Students will need a copy of each of the three novels: Turtle in Paradise, Full of Beans, and Penny from Heaven, all of which can be obtained online or from most libraries or bookstores.
