Description

COMING SOON!

Where did math come from? Who discovered it, and why? These are the types of questions that author Robert Black answers in this series of books on the history of mathematics.

Through an exploration of the origins of math, readers will learn about some of the ancient civilizations that first discovered numbers, learned how to calculate with them, and then used them for an array of practical purposes. The first volume, In Search of Ancient Algorithms, follows three such civilizations: the Sumerians in Mesopotamia, the Egyptians, and the Chinese. These weren’t the only societies to discover mathematics, nor were their mathematics necessarily the most advanced, but they offer a fascinating look at how and why early cultures developed some of the math that we still use today.
