THIS IS A TWO-SEMESTER COURSE.
Ah, French. The language of romance and diplomacy, and the official language of 29 countries across the world. Learning French opens one’s eyes to a rich tapestry of culture, cuisine, film, and history. This course is intended for true débutants (beginners) who wish to learn the basics of understanding and communicating in the French language while also learning about the culture of France and the global Francophone community. In this course, students will learn not only basic vocabulary and grammar but also French and global Francophone culture through music, film, literature, and of course, food!
Class Meetings: Mondays, 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Fall Semester: September 14 – December 14, 2026
Spring Semester: January 11 – May 10, 2027
Student Expectations: Students can expect homework assignments to include practicing speaking and writing in French, as well as listening to music and reading basic texts such as recipes.
Student Support: The instructor is available via email.
Feedback/Assessment: Students will be graded according to their basic competencies in the French language (oral, written, comprehension).
Materials/Supplies: The instructor will provide all necessary materials for this course.
