Description

Caesar’s English I teaches children important vocabulary while giving them wide-ranging insight into the ancient world and its contributions to our lives, including the language of the ancient Romans: Latin, which is the foundation of modern academic English.

The book is bursting with exercises and activities. The twenty lessons are based on Latin stems and lists of nonfiction words made from those stems, as well as lists of classic words. There are analogies, synonyms, antonyms, and word searches. In addition, there is a grammar component that demonstrates how vocabulary is used in the context of grammar. The book contains numerous examples of how great writers have used the vocabulary words, as well as excellent nonfiction essays that explore the history and architecture of ancient Roman civilization and poems written by Michael himself, some of which are translated into Spanish to illustrate the Latin foundation of both languages. Writing activities include paragraph-writing assignments and exercises in which students rewrite the sentences of great authors. Other sections provide short introductions to major authors whose works are used in the examples. Insight into the Roman world is enhanced by gorgeous photographs of Roman sites and artifacts.

The Classical Education Edition of Caesar’s English I is filled with so many extra elements that the book is too large to be handled easily by children. As a result, the student book comes in two parts.

As an added bonus, the book contains QR codes that link to audio of Michael reading his poems and exploring some of the classic words presented in the book. This enables students to hear the words in context and to know how they are pronounced. Please note that the QR codes in the eBook version of this book are inoperable.

This book is printed in black and white, but there is a full-color edition available. (See below.)

There is also a set of flashcards available to help students study the stems and words in the book. (See below.)
