We’re excited to announce that five students who attended Royal Fireworks Online Learning creative writing courses won or placed in the international Saugus Halloween writing contest! These results are a combination of great students and a sound educational approach.

From the energy crisis in drought-stricken areas of the western U.S. that rely on hydroelectric power to the price of oil surging globally, energy is something that everyone should understand, and children are no exception. In fact, they’re the ones who will need to understand it best. We offer two great resources to help kids learn about energy.

The month of October has been designated Emotional Wellness Month, and while many groups and organizations focus on how to help people achieve less stress in their lives and find balance between their work life and their home life, we want to make sure that children aren’t left out of consideration. We carry several books for developing self-awareness and mindfulness in young children.

Plenty of children think of math as an absolute nightmare, but it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, math can be spooktacular! Animated movies. Computer games. Smartphone technology. All of these things have in common fractals, which Benoit Mandlebrot opened up for us. Children who learn how this man bested the odds to discover something that has altered the world as we know it today will be welcomed into the subject of math in a way that a worksheet of problems can never do.

We’ve fielded many inquiries lately about instructing children in the arts, which includes the visual arts, music, dance, and drama. Artistic Ways of Knowing, by Joanne Haroutounian, Ph.D., is a comprehensive curriculum for teachers and homeschool co-op instructors who want to offer arts experiences to children of all ages and grades, ability levels, and backgrounds.
